Read to Me TCC: Fostering a Love of Reading in Chautauqua County
The Waterfront Foundation (TWF) is the conduit for a very important program at The Chautauqua Center (TCC). As part of its mission, TCC's Pediatric Care Services department offers the "Read to Me TCC" program, connecting local families and children with creative and educational reading opportunities.
About the Program
The Read to Me TCC program is modeled after a successful initiative used by one of our pediatric providers during his time in Georgia. TCC's pediatricians provide a free book to pediatric patients aged 0-5 at every well-child visit at TCC Jamestown. This program expands on the long-standing Reach Out and Read program used at TCC Dunkirk Pediatrics. TCC pediatricians use the books to gauge development and literacy milestones for each of our patients.
Key features of Read to Me TCC:
- Cost-effective: Less expensive than other similar programs, allowing for broader reach.
- Personalized Selection: Offers more personalized book selection for children.
- Extensive Library: Books ranging in age from 0-12, available in both English and Spanish.
- Regular Book Distribution: A different book is given at each well visit from age 0-5 years, for a total of ten books.
- Supporting Older Children: Additional books are available for older children at the discretion of providers.
- Community Supported: The program was initially made possible by a generous donation from Molina Healthcare.
